A booking-shaped website for a barre studio in Angeles City.

A boutique fitness studio whose entire schedule lived in Instagram stories and a group chat. The site was built around the one thing that actually mattered: getting a newcomer from “what is barre?” to a booked first class.

Overview

Kinefolk Studio is a barre studio in Angeles City. Barre is still a relatively unfamiliar format in Pampanga, which meant the website had two jobs that pull in opposite directions: explain the thing to someone who has never heard of it, and get an existing client to the schedule in one tap.

The build is a custom site rather than a template. A template would have been faster, but boutique fitness templates are all structured around a class-booking platform the studio does not use, and stripping that out costs more than starting from the studio's actual operation.

The problem

Before the site, the studio's schedule lived in Instagram stories and a group chat. That works while every client is someone you already know. It stops working the moment a stranger finds you, because a story expires in twenty-four hours and a group chat is not something you can link to.

The specific failure was newcomers. Someone would find the studio, be interested, and have no way to answer three questions without messaging: when are classes, what does a first class cost, and what do I need to bring. Every one of those is a point where an interested person quietly gives up.

The approach

The site is organized around the newcomer path rather than around the studio's internal structure. The order of the page answers the questions in the order a first-timer actually asks them, and the schedule is reachable from anywhere without scrolling back to a menu.

Barre is a visual format and the studio had good photography, so the design leans on it rather than on stock imagery. Type and spacing carry the calm, deliberate feel of the classes themselves, which matters, because for a boutique studio the website is the first impression of the room.

Schedule as the center of gravity
The class schedule is the page people return to, so it is the page everything else routes toward rather than an item buried in a nav menu.
A first-timer section that answers the unasked questions
What barre is, what to wear, what to bring, how early to arrive. These are the questions people message about, which means they are the questions costing bookings.
Mobile as the real design target
Fitness studio traffic in the Philippines is overwhelmingly mobile and often arrives from an Instagram link. The desktop layout is the adaptation, not the other way round.

How it was built

React and TypeScript, styled with Tailwind, and deployed as a fast static site. There is no CMS and no database, which is a deliberate choice for a studio of this size: a CMS is an ongoing cost and an ongoing security surface, and the schedule changes on a rhythm that does not justify either.

The pages are prerendered to static HTML, so they load quickly on a mid-range phone over mobile data, which is the actual condition most visitors are in and the one that decides whether they wait for the page or leave.

Where it landed

The studio has one canonical, linkable home for its schedule and its offer, which is what an Instagram bio link needs to point at for the account to convert rather than just accumulate followers.

The more durable outcome is structural: the studio now owns its own audience touchpoint. An Instagram account is rented ground, where reach is set by an algorithm and the account can vanish. A site the studio owns keeps working regardless of what any platform decides.
